Conference

Call for papers

Taking place at the Limerick School of Art & Design at the Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest, the ARLIS UK & Ireland conference 2025 invites proposals for presentations and workshops around the theme of Stacks, Studio, and Beyond: Artists and the Art Library. We are seeking contributions that reflect the lifecycle of the relationship between the artist and the art library, from the artist’s education and artistic practice to the preservation of artists’ legacies and histories; this conference will delve into the innovative ways art libraries are supporting artists at the various phases of their creative life. Exploring how we can further strengthen this connection between artists and libraries, the conference will highlight some of the essential functions that art libraries are serving as supporters of education, creativity, community and preservation in the cultural ecology.

In considering this topic, we encourage a broad range of disciplinary and career perspectives, including (but not limited to) librarians, academics, archivists, artists, curators, designers, educators, writers, and all those working in the creative and cultural industries.
